Case Study of Sun/Moon Progression Part 3
*
Your orientation to the world changes from self-referential
to one of analysis. There is more of a natural tendency
to try to understand the “why” of things.
*
This highlights a major and important emphasis on vocational identity. Success and social acceptance is stressed. How other people
perceive you out in the world is of prime consideration and will motivate you in
every decision you take. This is YOU, as far as you know it at this time.
house
themes: intensity of life, beginnings and endings,
completions, unwanted changing of life situations, issues of money and power,
big business, taxes, wills, inheritances. Importance of events is sensed. The
Moon’s movement through this house will trigger anything in life that needs
changing.
*
The roles of communicator and
disseminator of information become important at this time.
*
Your intellect and your identity
merge for a time, long enough for your mind to feel the warmth of inner
power. This could have become an occasion for increased arrogance, or for a
spark of joy at simply being alive.
*
Your Sun’s ruler enters the realm of higher thought, away
from the crisis-bound 8th house. She is also
still the ruler of your Progressed MC. Placed in the context of this Moon phase,
the purpose of this progression is to instil in you the
knowledge that you can find pleasure in contemplating higher subjects. For
example, such as those concerning the spirit.

decays, having pulled all its energy back into itself. Its stems and leaves will
provide fertilization for the next seedling.
seasonal resonance: mid-Autumn, April
The light has almost diminished now. A time of release and
closure. One feels prone to pull farther into one’s thoughts, with no sign of
being open to new ideas. This is a deeply mysterious part of the cyclic process,
and linked to the occult in terms of being now able to remove unwanted things
from one’s life. But it is not necessarily the happiest of times because there
are undertones of mourning for what has gone forever. Wisdom is internalised.
Purification is possible. Solitude with one’s thoughts
can lead to greater consciousness.
Purpose:
To process, surrender, release, transform, close

Given that the natal Moon squares Mars, this conjunction
with both Mars and Venus may have altered your experience of this square, to
include feelings of love and passion. I wouldn’t be surprised if you fell in
love with a foreign land, a foreigner, or while pursuing higher learning. The
purpose of this progression was to expand your emotional range.

Your Sun’s ruler has left fiery, selfish Aries and entered
its own sign. Your love nature and capacity to appreciate the good things in
life is significantly strengthened. If you have siblings then your relationship
with them would have improved with this progression (Venus ruling 3rd). Your career would have received the benefit from
your subtle shift of priorities. The purpose of this progression was to prepare
your incorporation of earthy Taurean values, so dear to your Sun.
*
Your outer, chosen identity enters an area of community.
Working takes you into the path of many kinds of people with other interests.
The purpose of this progression was to capitalize on the New Moon period to
come, by placing you and your aspirations within groups of people who could help
you to advance.
*
house
themes: career and social status, job changes,
marriage/divorce (as per social status), awareness of how society judges you and
will make changes to suit your classification, achievement of hoped-for
goal.
This is so clearly an important marker, given the Sun’s
progression onto the MC too! If ever there was a time of career highlights, the
next few years must have been memorable.
*
plant
symbolism: The stirring of the seed in the dark
earth
seasonal resonance: Winter Solstice, June
The New Moon is symbolic of incarnation. A seed has been
planted and now must take form---and this form will become its identity. When we
begin a New Moon phase after completing several other phases, the identity of
the form to come through the growth of this period, is not the form we entered
with. You can relate this time to the Ascent of the Goddess from the dungeons of
the Underworld. The lessons of the previous 7 years are with us now. There is a
feeling of having survived some kind of test. This is the beginning of a 28-29
year period of new development.
The Eclipse
heightens this lunation’s significance. Saros cycle 3 North has themes of
excessiveness, where news or information can cause one to worry or undertake
large plans in an obsessive manner. The New Moon in the 10th house in Taurus, underscores the materialist
ambitions that accompany this new beginning.
The sorry
state of stress and health in which you find yourself now, began at this point.
Quite simply, you over-identified with public success as your path to
happiness. The ruler of the MC and Sun, Venus in Aries in the 8th, drove you to it, thinking that you would be
fulfilling your Sun identity if you reached for The Top. But she is detrimented
in Aries and so does not necessarily understand your Sun’s best interests (in
other words, she has good intentions but lousy people skills)
This moon phase also initiates a desire for new activities,
which may not become obvious for a while. Life changes from this point on.
Purpose:
To emerge, initiate, birth, begin

Your assertion alters in tone, taking a more slow and
steady expression of its energy. Mars is in detriment in this sign, and
therefore cannot be expressed in its purest form. Your desire nature likely
altered in direction, also. Instead of going after what suited at the moment,
you may have begun to put yourself behind goals such as buying a house, or going
on a cruise. Any legal problems during these years might have taken a turn for
the worse around this time. The purpose of this progression was to slow you
down, and bring your desire nature more in line with
your Sun.
house
themes: groups take on a higher priority, working
for, with, through a group, other people’s issues, minority group problems,
activities of clubs or societies, group’s opinions are important, open to
socializing and social interactions
*
With a Moon already in Gemini and in the 11th house, this was obviously an
extremely social time. Networking and advancing your career probably took
priority. Your search for knowledge would have been fuelled by this major
progression. When a Taurus Sun moves into Gemini it becomes more outward
oriented. Its “usual security-conscious self learns to be more curious about the
world, and begins to enjoy change
[13] .” New insights are encouraged. The Sun feels inspired to
“communicate more, analyze, theorize, and discuss
[14]
.” Since this is in the
10th house, your career choices benefited from
the number of options available.
*
This progression heightens the excitement of this period.
Mental boundaries were broken and information taken in at an incredible rate.
The purpose of this progression was to assimilate the
learning of the New Moon period, in preparation for beginning the Second Cycle
. The seed was mutated, so that it could
grow in a new way.
*
Truly the end/beginning of a major cycle. With this
conjunction one has made a complete round of the symbolic path. After this
point, your emotional memory will be triggered by all your various experiences.
What has been deeply incorporated into your emotional belief system has been
recorded in detail. From now on the Moon’s movement through the horoscope, as
she touches on many points, will set off your original emotional responses to
your experiences (whether those replay responses make any sense or not). The
Moon makes aspects on a relatively frequent basis, setting off the natal chart.
You might wonder whether that over-reaction to your sister’s refusal to wear the
socks you knit her, was crazy or what. In the progressed Moon’s role as “soul
memory” and emotional interpreter, is an astrological answer.
The reflective light she shines
over the ground of your interior world is gentle. With this Lunar Return, she
brings all her emotional patterns back to home base. Memories and impressions at
this first conjunction are compared and correlated.
Look ahead now, to the next Moon phase: pushy Crescent
energy aided by a Moon going into swashbuckling Leo, and eventually crossing
over the Ascendant into prominence. Can you feel the momentum of this time
building? What was it all building up to?
*
This phase is marked by an energetic forward push; a sense
of seriousness about one’s goals is also a part of this phase, due to the
impending Saturn Return. Any sign of emotional weakness
would be firmly staunched at this time. You may have felt too dried up to
even cry in the privacy of your own bedroom.
*
At last the Sun’s ruler has progressed enough to bring its
power to your Sun. This is a major progression and one you must have felt inside
as a satisfying “click.” Consolidating your love nature
with your will to Be, coupled with this particular Moon phase signalled a
fortunate period of growth for you. It is likely that at some level you felt
blessed. The purpose of this progression was to grant you the success you chose
to pursue. It also infused Venus with the Sun’s message.
*
In some manner your vocation received disruption, or was
shaken up. The purpose of this progression was to liberate your understanding of who you could be
, out in the world. It happened at this time in order to take advantage of the momentum
of the full Crescent Moon phase, so that you had time to present yourself in a
new way before this productive period ended. While transiting Saturn was
demanding you “grow up,” this progression was asking you to “lighten up.”
*
Your potential as a well-respected communicator (Sun in
Gemini) is powerfully activated at this time. In the context of your Moon phase,
you were hitting your stride as a successful career woman. As a point of
destiny, the North Node casts no rays. But the Sun’s progression to conjunct
this point is significant. The purpose of this progression is to sound the Call from the Spirit
. The maturing influences
of the Saturn Return synchronize.
*
*
Intensity of feeling predominates
now. The purpose of this progression is to stir up upsetting memories of
betrayal and misused power. The waxing Moon phase gave you the impetus to
survive the feelings this progression aroused.
*
“I Am” becomes “I Have”
You see material goals as natural
and right. What you have defines who you are.
*
This is the phase of gathering
strength for the eventual production of fruit. The Moon’s trine to the natal Sun
provides her with a flowing reception of the Sun’s voice. Even if you could not
consciously feel that part of you stretching out in spirit, your Moon was taking
notes.
*
With the fire of a thousand
furnaces, Mars and the Sun meet and conjoin. Even if you did not yet know it,
your internal drive to go forward was blown away by the power of your drive to
be YOU. Mars left this conjunction, and was forever changed. The pushing forward
theme of this waxing moon phase goes hand in hand with this progression. Its
purpose was to start the journey.
*
At this time the Moon is passing
over the internal conception point, marking the end/beginning of the cycle of
the inner horoscope. The purpose of this progression was to unconsciously
register your readiness to refine (Virgo) your relationship with the outside
world.
*
Liberation of mind, is the
purpose of this progression.
*
As with all the other conjunctions the Moon has made, this
is the second time with
*
Lurking down in the Underworld of
the chart, Jupiter hardly seems like the best candidate for providing an
infusion of optimism. But though others may say that you don’t display
hopefulness very strongly, you have it inside. As the Moon passes over this
point, you feel your capacity to hope, and yearning
to explore the deeper more mysterious aspects of your life.
*
Following up on Mercury’s
previous conjunction with Uranus, its entry to Cancer marks the beginning of a
whole new mode of perception. Your intellect began to turn toward your emotional
world. Now in synch with your birth Moon, your mind was able to grasp the instinctive side of life with less likelihood
of brushing it off as whimsical nonsense. The purpose of this progression was to
change your thinking. Your life would follow suit.
*
*
Because the Ascendant’s ruler
Venus has conjuncted the natal Sun, she has altered her orientation so that the
Libran qualities of concession and agreement are inimical to your inner
direction. You don’t really want to bend over backwards to please anybody. But
at this point you have a lot invested in being “nice.” The ball is rolling and
it is too late to pull out of long-term plans and suddenly change your mind. A great amount of your emotional energy will now be
directed straight into your career path. If you have had a family, they will
suffer from your lack of attention. The purpose of this progression is to bring
this issue to a head.
*
Another milestone has been
reached with the arrival at this point. This is the pinnacle of success, and
things were probably never as good at the top as they were at this time. The
lunar eclipse highlights this lunation period as more of a Moon flavoured time
than solar. The preceding solar eclipse had the character of sudden endings of
associations or relationships. “There is a large emotional component…and a sense
of traumatic transformation.” [15]
*
Your worldly orientation has
become rigid, although full maturity is part of your self-expression. You ARE
the boss. And you probably had to work damn hard to stay that way. At this time
your health would feel the affect of the stress (Saturn ruling the 6th house of illness). Joint
and bone problems would begin around this time. The purpose of this
progression (in the context of the soon-to-come Moon phase) was to bring home in no uncertain terms, that your years of
public success were effectively over.
The realization that your
direction in life needed revising would have stemmed from this Moon phase. The
Moon in Capricorn in the 6th house encouraged a
long, hard look at where you were at that time, and where you had already been.
It was a time to integrate knowledge and experiences. At this Second Cycle of
the Moon phase, you would have begun to develop a
philosophy of life, due to the contemplative tone of the waning period.
*
Your solar identity moves from
the achievement oriented 10th into the
community-minded 11th. This is another major
progression, one of a series in 1990. The Sun denotes your inner Being. By
moving house, the Sun carried its light into another arena of interest. At this
time your work would be something you were obligated to perform, rather than as
an arena for personal glory. The purpose of this progression was to facilitate
the closing of the door. It was also your signal to look around for like-minded individuals who could help you on your
journey to another kind of life.
*
Your frame of mind is well and
truly becoming reflective (in Cancer, and close to the Moon) and introspective.
People around you would have noticed how quiet you were, at times. The purpose
of this progression was to make familiar the lunar
approach to receiving and expressing information. That is, like a sponge.
*
Venus, ruler of your Sun, reaches
the MC. In Taurus she finds the prospect of hard work ludicrous, if there are
more pleasant ways to spend one’s time. The purpose of this progression was to
sweeten for you the idea of a life lived more in tune with the beauty and rhythm
of Nature. This event was a portent of retirement, even though you may not have
felt any conscious attraction to the idea.
*
“Realizations arise that rock the roots of the
self-image.” [16] Just in case all the other progressions did not do the
trick, this one is here for the express purpose of introducing that sudden
change portended in the lunar eclipse of the Full Moon.
*
This is the classic withdrawal from public life. Spiritual aspirations
emerge. Contemplation and thoughtfulness are noticed as becoming part of one’s
character. The purpose of this progression was to prepare the people who knew
you in your professional capacity for your eventual change of public image. In
your working life you would have felt a subtle shift in your enthusiasm for your
working activities.
*
Again, the evolving identity
undergoes sudden alteration. This won’t change the Sun into something it isn’t.
The jolt of lightning-like revelation will reveal your
most unique characteristics.
*
The vocation point comes to
contact the Inner Mother. At this time in your life, it is the lunar form of the
Crone who characterizes your public image. Any woman who lives long enough will
inevitably arrive at this place. The Moon now rules your point of ambition. The
purpose of this progression is to change your ambitions
to satisfy your inner Mother.
This is like a rehearsal for the
New Moon phase to come.

2000 : Moon into 11th house
“The King is dead! Long live the
King!”
Metaphorically, the Sun has died
and been reborn. A whole new life awaits.
*
“I Have” becomes “I Communicate.”
Your journey to fluently express your personality is
over in one sense, and just beginning in another. You always were where you
needed to be, but that is easier said than done. It takes a journey of a
lifetime to reach the truest Self.
